Plagiarism

Plagiarism, the taking of someone else's ideas or work and passing them in as your own, is a matter of considerable concern in higher education. It is an act of academic dishonesty and attracts considerable penalties. Strategies to discourage plagiarism amongst students range from educating students about the nature of plagiarism to designing assessment tasks to minimise the opportunities to use another person's work.

There are a range of web sites available that discuss plagiarism, both within CQUniversity and at other universities.

  • Turnitin is used for checking originality and preventing plagiarism by comparing student submissions with other information sources.Turnitin is not a plagiarism checker. Turnitin does not determine if plagiarism has occurred. This is a decision for the Lecturer to make. Turnitin serves only as a guide to help the lecturer determine where a student‟s work may have been copied, or sourced from.
