Equity Outreach Program

CQUniversity's Equity Outreach Program aims to encourage participation in tertiary studies by high school students from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education, namely:

  • students from low socio-economic backgrounds;
  • students from rural and isolated areas;
  • students who identify as being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander;
  • students with a disability;
  • students from a non-English speaking background;
  • students whose career interests are in a non-traditional area e.g. females in Information Technology or Engineering and males in Nursing.

CQUniversity Experience

CQUniversity Experience involves several outreach activities that have been designed to raise students' aspirations and awareness regarding tertiary education. Students can participate in:

  • intensive or long running programs that involve information sessions and hands-on activities at a CQUniversity campus
  • information sessions presented by the Equity Outreach Project Officer and other CQUniversity staff delivered on school grounds
  • a live on campus experience where students stay at Rockhampton's Capricornia Residential College for four nights and participate in activities and sessions to get an experience of university life

Aims of CQUniversity Experience

  • Assist students to become aware of the university environment and available programs
  • Inform students of online and other materials to assist in decision making regarding higher education
  • Help students to identify and overcome barriers to tertiary education
  • Provide students with information regarding the support services available at CQUniversity, including financial services and scholarships
  • Support students Set Plans by helping students to identify the necessary path to achieve their goals
