Each year the Mackay Student Residence, Capricornia College Rockhampton and the University Faculties jointly sponsor and present awards in recognition of academic achievement, leadership and contribution to the residential community. See the Scholarships page for more information.
The Residential Life Team hold regular meetings for residents undertaking the same program to give residents the opportunity to discuss courses and talk with students who are at different stages in their study. This can also be good for residents wanting to purchase second hand textbooks and can be a way to create new social connections between residents of Mackay Student Residence.
The Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) is part of the School of Creative and Performing Arts within the Faculty of Arts, Business, Informatics & Education of CQUniversity, with the responsibility for the overview and development of all aspects of music and theatre across the University.
The Hannah Drysdale Library houses the Mackay collection and provides students with a pleasant environment in which to study. The Library's general collection is supplemented by several specialised collections such as the periodical collection, the reference collection, the curriculum materials collection and the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music collection.
Students may request books and photocopies of journal articles from other campus collections and have them delivered overnight. Photocopiers, computers and audio-visual equipment are also available for students to use. The Communications Learning Centre helps students to develop and improve English communication skills such as reading, writing, delivering oral presentations and note-taking. The Mathematics Learning Centre can assist students with the mathematical or quantitative component of their course. Services provided by the Centre include: diagnostic tests in mathematics to determine areas of weakness; counselling in how to learn mathematics; and special preparatory sessions in basic mathematics. The Information Technology Directorate (ITD) maintains student computer laboratories with Internet access, printers and other computing facilities. Staff can provide technical assistance over the phone or by email. For more information see the IT website or phone 1300 666 620.
