Co-op Placements

At CQUniversity the Co-op program is a three-way partnership between the University, the student, and industry. Cooperative Education is a strategy of applied learning which combines the rigour of an accredited academic program with periods of paid, supervised and relevant experience in the workplace. Students undertake one or two periods of approved paid industry experience during their degrees.

Co-operative Placements formally integrates a student's academic studies with work experience in cooperating employer organisations. The usual plan is for the student to alternate periods of experience in appropriate fields of business, industry, government, social services and the professions with periods of university study.

The work experience is an integral part of the overall program and is an essential component of the final assessment for the degree qualification. The periods of industry experience are structured with certain declared objectives in mind; these include acquiring specific skills and knowledge, insights and values, and relating to colleagues and co-workers under the inherent constraints of the working environment. Work placements are supervised by both the employer (who employees the student subject to the same employment conditions as other employees) and by a member of the Faculty's academic staff.
