At CQUniversity the Co-op program is a three-way partnership between the University, the student, and industry. Cooperative Education is a strategy of applied learning which combines the rigour of an accredited academic program with periods of paid, supervised and relevant experience in the workplace. Students undertake two periods of approved paid industrial experience during their degrees.
The work experience is an integral part of the overall program and is an essential component of the final assessment for the degree qualification. The periods of industrial experience are structured with certain declared objectives in mind; these include acquiring specific skills and knowledge, insights and values, and relating to colleagues and co-workers under the inherent constraints of the working environment. These two periods are supervised by both the employer (who employees the student subject to the same employment conditions as other employees) and by a member of the Faculty's academic staff.
