The Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health appoints an Academic Supervisor for each student for the period of their Co-op placement. Supervisors will check student's progress by phone and liaise with the employer to visit the student at the workplace. They will liaise with the employer and the student if any problems arise. The Co-op Director will inform the student, the employer, and the industrial supervisor of the name of the academic nominated.
The industrial supervisor is normally the person to whom students report, and who plans and monitors student work on behalf of the organisation. That person liaises as required with the Co-op Director on the student's progress. The industrial supervisor is also requested to complete an "Evaluation of Performance" form to be returned to the Co-op Director upon completion of the student's industrial placement.
The principal task of the Co-op office is to assist students to obtain a Co-op placement in an area related to their studies. As well as maintaining a strong liaison with employers to match students to their requirements, the office organises the conduct of workshops on resume writing, addressing selection criteria and interview skills. Additional personal counselling about placements is offered to students when necessary.
