Course Withdrawals After Census Date

To exit a course after the census date, you have to go to CQUcentral (or call the Student Services number: 1300 550 900) and drop the course[s] you are unable to complete. You will receive a WF (Withdrawn fail).

In extenuating cases, your failing grade may be changed to simply a withdrawal from the course. This is called withdrawal without academic penalty. Note that you will still be liable for the financial cost of the course, and your Student Learning Entitlement will also be reduced. Any application must be received by CQUniversity before the start of the examination period for the Term.

To apply to withdraw without academic penalty, you will need to send a letter to the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health requesting a withdrawal from the specific course(s). You will also need to attach supporting documentation to show that you cannot continue the course[s] (e.g. a Doctor's certificate stating you cannot continue your studies). However, if you are not a Commonwealth Supported student, The Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) may support your claim to Student Finance if applicable. Address this application and supporting documentation to:

The Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning)
Faculty of Sciences, Engineering & Health
CQUniversity
Rockhampton QLD 4702

There is also a process for withdrawing without financial penalty in extenuating circumstances. If you are a Commonwealth Supported (previously HECS students) you must apply for a re-credit of your Student Learning Entitlement (SLE) in Special Circumstances. An application form is available on the Student Administration website. The policy governing this process (Recrediting of Student Learning Entitlements in Special Circumstances) is also available on the CQUniversity Policy site. If the SLE for the course is re-credited then the HECS-HELP debt or refund of any upfront payment of student contributions is remitted or refunded. The assessment of Applications for re-crediting of SLE is the responsibility of Student Records. Enquiries related to financial penalties should be directed via email or telephone to 4930 9395.

Please take the time to read through the policy so that you are familiar with the strict criteria for consideration of special circumstances. All requests will be assessed against the criteria and a decision made on the basis of your request against this criteria.
