CQU College

CQU College provides an excellent alternative pathway to university for students who do not meet the admission requirements for entry into a CQUniversity degree program. Students can study English Language, the CQU Foundation Studies Program or, one of two Diploma Programs.

Successful completion of the CQU Foundation Studies Program will guarantee entry into a diploma program or directly into the 1st year of a range of undergraduate degree programs at any CQUniversity campus (subject to program requirements).

Successful completion of a diploma program will guarantee entry into 2nd year of a related undergraduate degree program.

CQU Foundation Studies and diploma programs have three intakes, they are March, July and November.

CQU Foundation Studies Program:

CQU Foundation Studies is a full time program studied over two consecutive terms. The program length is 26 weeks. Workshop-style classes will be scheduled throughout each of the two 13 week terms, with a break between terms. These workshops will consist of classroom instruction, student activities and self-study of 60 hours per course.

Term 1

All students must undertake the seven core courses that provide the foundation for success at the higher education level.

Term 2

Students undertake an additional four core courses and then choose a stream of study they wish to pursue. Available streams of study are Business Studies, Computing or Social Science.

The curriculum focuses on developing and improving your English language proficiency for academic study and how to use these language skills in the areas of Mathematics, Computing Studies and Communication.

Teachers will provide you with continuous feedback to assist you to meet your goals.

Term 1 - 7 core courses:

  • English for Academic Purposes 1A
  • English for Academic Purposes 1B
  • English for Academic Purposes 2A
  • English for Academic Purposes 2B
  • Academic Study Skills
  • Mathematics Fundamentals
  • Introduction to Computing for Academic Study

Term 2 - 7 courses (4 core and 3 courses from a specialised stream)

  • English for Academic Purposes 3A
  • English for Academic Purposes 3B
  • Probability, Statistics and Finance
  • Communication Skills

And one of the specialised streams listed below

Business Stream

  • Business Studies
  • International Business Studies
  • Elective from courses in other streams

Computing Stream

  • Data Management

Social Science Stream

  • Identify and Interaction in Society

Higher Education Diploma Programs:

CQU College diploma programs consist of eight courses, which can be studied over two terms, and are equivalent to the 1st year of the CQUniversity undergraduate degree. The course content is identical to the course content in the 1st year of the degree program with the exception of the assessment which is assignment based. Students wishing to articulate into the Bachelor of Accounting, however, must undertake a number of invigilated tests as part of the assessment.

Diploma of Business Administration

Depending on the specialisation chosen, on successful completion students can enrol in 2nd year of:

CQU Foundation Studies

English Language requirements: overall IELTS band of score 5.5 (with no individual band score of less than 5.0) or equivalent
Academic entry requirements: Year 11 or equivalent and 17 years of age at time of commencement of program.
